Our history

Bath Rugby Foundation was established on 22nd November 2003, on the same day that Jonny Wilkinson kicked England to victory in the Rugby World Cup.

Bath Rugby Foundation was set up to give back to the local community.

It was a forerunner in this area, being the first Rugby Club to do so.

Since that date the Foundation has proudly worked with thousands of children in the local community. Throughout the last 21 years the aims of our coaches have remained the same - to enhance the lives of young people through sport and to motivate, raise self-esteem, increase confidence and improve life skills by imparting the values found in rugby - camaraderie, loyalty, discipline and respect.

Initially coaching rugby to school children from disadvantaged backgrounds was the focus, but as the needs of the poorer areas of the city became more obvious the delivery programmes changed to fit the challenges faced in Bath’s communities.

As Bath Rugby Foundation is set to celebrate our 21st birthday, our staff, trustees and partners are committed to empowering disadvantaged young people in the Bath area, giving all youngsters an equal opportunity.

When Bath Rugby moved its operations from the city to Farleigh House, Bath Rugby Foundation moved with them. However, given the nature of our work, it makes sense for our coaches to be in the heart of the city.

Therefore in December 2017 the Foundation moved back to the Rec. Thanks to the team at Bath Rec Ltd, we are now based at The Rec Sports Hub, with an office for staff, a classroom for participants and changing facilities to support our activity
