Latest news How Our ADVANTAGE programme is changing young lives At Bath Rugby Foundation, we’ve always believed in the power of sport and community to change young lives. Our mission has been to empower the vulnerable young people in Bath and North East Somerset and beyond, and our ADVANTAGE programme is one of the ways we’re making that vision a reality. The ADVANTAGE programme is designed specifically for 16-25-year-olds who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) or at risk of becoming so. We provide these young adults with the tools they need to boost their confidence, self-esteem, and readiness for the world of work or further education. Visit us at The Hub (North Parade Road, Bath BA2 4ET) where we will work with you to build a bespoke programme to your needs. For young people aged 16-25 who live in B&NES, Bristol and Wiltshire who would like to be in work or training but have struggled to find where they fit. One story that really stands out is that of Ash, a young man who joined our programme with significant anxieties. With the help of our team and the supportive environment we create, Ash managed to overcome his fears and reached heights—both literally and figuratively—that he never thought possible. ADVANTAGE attendee, Ash, conquered his fears to climb Pen Y Fan Our expert volunteer, Pete Morgan, celebrated Ash's triumphs: "Ash overcame his anxieties to get to the highest place he has ever visited!" It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. The ADVANTAGE programme isn’t just about teaching new skills; it’s about helping young people conquer their personal challenges and find a sense of purpose and direction. Course leader and Alternative Learning Coach, Liam Lintern, celebrated Ash’s progress and dedication when climbing Pen Y Fan, saying: “Ash has never been on a mountain and is extremely scared of heights! Despite this, he conquered every fear and was the first one at the top of the mountain! It was an honour to see Ash overcome a fear of his, which he puts down to the confidence he has built throughout his five weeks at ADVANTAGE.” But the impact of ADVANTAGE goes beyond individual stories. Our programme is designed to create long-lasting change. By the time our participants complete the programme, they leave with greater confidence, improved mental health, and the skills they need to move forward—whether that’s in further education or into employment. They also gain valuable social connections that help combat feelings of isolation. We couldn’t do this alone. The success of ADVANTAGE is thanks to the incredible support we receive from our partners, including Bath College, Curo, West of England Combined Authority and local businesses like Bertinet Bakery, YMCA Night Stop & Day Stop and YMCA Gym Bath. These partnerships provide our participants with invaluable work experience, skills development, and mentorship opportunities. Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue growing the ADVANTAGE programme, thanks to the support from the West of England Combined Authority (WECA). This funding allows us to reach even more young adults who need our help. Want to make a referral? Our team would love to talk to you.
