This month, Bath Rugby Foundation teamed up with Bath Rugby, Cumberwell Park Golf Club and Savills to deliver a series of inspiring work experience opportunities for young people in Midsomer Norton.

On 8th July, 20 students joined us at The Rec for our first-ever Work Experience Safari, delivered in partnership with Bath Rugby. From media and marketing to hospitality and HR, young people stepped into real roles across the club — gaining hands-on insight into what it takes to run a Premiership rugby organisation.

“We’ve built a school system that fails learners who can’t sit still for five hours a day,” said Jonno, our Alternative Learning Manager. “This was a hands-on experience that left them feeling like they belong in this city. It was great that Councillor Paul May could attend and see first-hand the strength of the partnership between Bath Rugby Foundation and Bath Rugby.”

Bridget, Bath Rugby’s Head of HR, added:
"‘We loved having the students at the Rec - their energy and creativity is infectious and we can learn so much from their fresh ideas and perspectives. This is a club for the city and we are so grateful that these young people chose to spend their work experience time with us."

The following week, we took our Work Experience Safari to Cumberwell Park Golf Club, where 15 students from Norton Hill School got stuck into a variety of practical tasks including:

• Conservation work: identifying pollinators and painting bird boxes

• Grounds maintenance

• Coaching at the driving range

Each role gave students a taste of working life and revealed just how many careers exist beyond the classroom.

Meanwhile, Savills joined us at the Alternative Learning Hub to deliver a bespoke work experience session for students, offering valuable insights into the property and surveying industry, and encouraging students to explore pathways they may not have considered before.

Across all three settings, the message was clear: there’s a future for every young person — and we’re here to help them find it.
